“Your personal brand will be the most important thing you learn how to market effectively”

Over the last few years, I have tested different variations of posts to see what style would perform the best. This post from my instagram page has the most interactions on the page.

It contains a carousel of 3 different photos from Djúpalónssandur, Iceland, with a pin of the location and 20 different relevant hashtags (assisted by Chat GPT) in the caption. It total 44 likes, 1 comment, and 2 shares. However, it is not the post with the most impressions. Vertical format inspirational Reels received the most with 708 views.

People who want to travel find this post most appealing because it shows multiple photos and gives the location. Other similar posts that showcases travel destinations have more engagement.

TikTok - @alx.motions

My TikTok page is full of high quality, professionally edited videos but the best performing video was a humorous video.

The video is of my friends and I dancing in the streets of Barcelona to the song Last Friday Night x NOKIA (a trending video at the time). Both in impressions and interactions, it was the most successful. It received 3,000 views with 161 likes, 17 comments, and 5 saves.

This shows that potential tourists value some humor and entertainment in their TikTok feed.

YouTube - @alx.motions

YouTube is a social media platform that I have not done much testing with as the process to edit/upload long video media is more time consuming.

'“Pacific Coast Highway” has the most views but “Barcelona Spring Break” has the most views over a shorter period of time. Much of the success could be from the number of friends I had to help share the video. However, it has been almost unanimous that “Prague” was everyone’s favorite video because of the backstory tied to it.

“Prague” features my friend Kalysta, who I happen to meet on a European Cruise in 2022. Our connection and spontaneity has turned a usual one week friendship into international best friends. Kalysta (from Ottawa, Canada) and I ( from Arizona, U.S.) have made it a point to see each other once a year on some trip. This video was of our first trip together (that was not visiting each other’s homes) and has captured the attention of many of my friends.

The question is now how to capture this backstory on the video in order to bring in more travel oriented viewers.
